For the poet & the artist in all of us. For a place to hang out and think...For the family... For the hell of it. Why not?

Sad/Happy Note
Hello all,
I came to LA to say good bye to my mother yesterday to find my father who was so in love with my mom prepared to join her. He willed himself to her side again only 42 hours after having lost her...
He passed peacefully last night with all of us here with him and each other.
We are all in awe of our father now more than ever.
Services now Thursday for both at 2:00 pm...
Lots of love from us all.

My mother died yesterday. My brother wrote the following:
Joanne Sara Weiss, née Pickus, died during the first hours of August 24th, the day after her 83rd birthday.
Born in 1925 in Saint Louis, MO, she grew up in Winnetka, IL where she attended New Trier High School. Moving west she went to Beverly Hills High, UCLA and UC Berkeley where she took a Humanities degree. Subsequently she earned a master's degree in Special Education from Cal Lutheran.
Joanne was passionately devoted to her students, esteemed among her colleagues and dearly loved by all who knew her.
An ardent advocate for liberal values and human decency she enjoyed her reputation as an empathetic ear and "favorite mom" to her children's diverse friends.
Her lifetime love for books and travel was inspirational and exemplary, her sense of humor was legendary, and her openness and warmth were a comfort and refuge to the many who sought her company. Her special enthusiasm for Hawaii was indulged in annual summertime visits made with her husband.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 58 years, Edward A. Weiss of Van Nuys, CA, and her large and loving family of brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, children and grandchildren.
The funeral will be at Mt. Sinai Mortuary, 5950 Forest Lawn Dr., Tuesday, August 26th at 2 PM. In lieu of flowers a donation may be made to one of her favorite charities:
Saint Jude's Children's Foundation, Jewish Family Services of the San Fernando Valley, or any good cause.
Just wanted to let you all know and send our love to all...
